Library Advocacy
Thanks for Your Support!

The Kent District Library would like to extend a sincere thank you for your efforts to protect library funding and express concern over the governor's proposed 40% reduction in state aid to libraries for the 2011–2012 budget. As a result of your support, we are happy to report that libraries are one of the only groups in the state to see an increase in funding for the 2011–2012 fiscal year budget — a total of $450,000 over current year funding (additional budget details can be found here).
Although this was a significant victory for libraries across the state, we must continue working diligently to protect library funding. While state funding is critical to maintain a number of key library services, the majority of KDL’s funding comes from local property taxes which continue to decline as property values drop. As such, our funding challenges are not yet over and we encourage all library supporters to continue their advocacy efforts and let their local leaders know how important library service is to them.
Once again, we sincerely thank you for your support and hope you will continue to take advantage of all the wonderful services your library has to offer.
