Title: Pawn (The Blackcoat Rebellion)

Author: Aimée Carter

KDL Description:

“This is the first book in the ‘Blackcoat Rebellion’ by Michigan author Aimee Carter. This is a teen dystopian book, that gives you an insight of what it is like to be part of the ruling elite in the society. The story focuses on 18 year old Kitty who has lived in an orphanage her whole life and when you turn 18 you have to take a test to see where you rank in society and what your role will be. Kitty scores very low on the test but luckily she has remarkable eyes that catch the attention of the authorities. The Prime Minster of the country decides that Kitty is the perfect candidate to be masked and turned into his niece in order to replace her. He offers her a world she could never have achieved from taking the test. However she learns that the ruling family is often at each other’s throats and could care less about the common man, and that they will use propaganda in their favor to stay in power. This book is interesting because instead of the classic dystopian book fighting the power from the outside, Kitty has the chance to destroy the system from within its own power structure.”

Amazon Description:

For Kitty Doe, it seems like an easy choice. She can either spend her life as a III in misery, looked down upon by the higher ranks and forced to leave the people she loves, or she can become a VII and join the most powerful family in the country.

If she says yes, Kitty will be Masked—surgically transformed into Lila Hart, the Prime Minister’s niece, who died under mysterious circumstances. As a member of the Hart family, she will be famous. She will be adored. And for the first time, she will matter.

There’s only one catch. She must also stop the rebellion that Lila secretly fostered, the same one that got her killed…and one Kitty believes in. Faced with threats, conspiracies and a life that’s not her own, she must decide which path to choose—and learn how to become more than a pawn in a twisted game she’s only beginning to understand.
