Early Literacy Workshops & Training
Did you know that children develop the basis for their abilities and attitudes toward learning and reading in their first five years of life? Find out what you can do to nurture this development through any of Kent District Library’s free workshops:
PLAY-GROW-READ! Early Literacy Workshop
An early literacy workshop introducing fun ways that parents can help their children get ready to read. For parents and caregivers of children age 5 and under. Perfect for parent events at schools, mom’s groups, or in-service training for early childhood professionals.
Make & Take Workshop
Parents and children (ages 5 and under) are invited to spend time together doing crafts which support each of the six pre-reading skills. All materials are provided.
Early Literacy Information for Teen Parents
A low-key, interactive discussion of simple activities to help young parents promote early literacy with their children.
Early Literacy 101
Invite us as a guest speaker for your college or high school class! This presentation is an introduction to early literacy for students intending to work with young children or for high school parenting classes.
Read Aloud Tips and Tricks
Learn how to share books with babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Includes tips on choosing age-appropriate books as well as how to engage children’s imaginations with puppets, fingerplays, rhymes and songs.
All presentations are FREE to all Kent County residents, include take-home materials, and are scheduled when and where it’s convenient for you and your clients. Presentations in Spanish are also available.
