The Grandville library branch is launching a new item for checkout this summer. Inflatable kayaks!
Patrons who are interested in checking out a kayak will only need their Kent District Library card. The requirements for checkout will be that patrons need to be 18 years or older, viewing a mandatory safety video, signing a borrower's agreeement and waiver, and checking out a personal flotation device (life jacket) with every kayak. We will include instructions and everything you need for a new kayaking adventure!
The Grandville branch is conveniently located about a mile away from a kayak launch on the Grand River, though patrons are welcome to try out the kayaks wherever permitted.
This compact option allows kayakers to pack up the kayak and transport easily without needing a car rack or truck bed. Inflatable kayaks are intended to increase accessibility for individuals wanting to try out a kayak who would otherwise lack the storage space and/or necessary means to transport a traditional hard bodied kayak.
When will the kayaks be available for checkout?
Soon. We hope they will be ready for checkout in June.
When will other branches get kayaks?
Grandville is the only branch piloting kayak checkout at this time, though we may consider other branches for kayak checkout in the future. Anyone with a KDL library card can check out these kayaks.
What kinds of kayaks are available?
Advanced Elements AdvancedFrame Sport DS and AdvancedFrame DS XLC Series inflatable kayaks.
