After working at KDL for a decade, Maureen recently retired from the Grandville Branch. We are really going to miss her kind spirit. She will always be part of the KDL family.
The past 10+ years that I worked for KDL were very inspiring and fun. I really enjoyed my time in the sub-pool going around to the different branches and the Service Center. I only missed two branches - Sand Lake and Lowell - and plan on going to those as soon as the coast is clear! I enjoyed meeting all the staff at the different locations and seeing the talented people at each one. One of the things I most enjoyed were All Staff days, meeting up with co-workers I had met and forming long time friendships with them. Many of the seminars at All Staff are still stuck in my head and inspiring me today. Whether by co-workers or patrons, I will always feel enriched by working at the library. Hopefully I was able to inspire others that I met along the way. I will miss interacting with my co-workers daily but I promise to come to the library and maybe be a regular patron.
My plans for retirement - I'm going to sit down and read, read, read. I will work in my gardens, go kayaking and enjoy being with my grandchildren. Travel plans are on hold right now, but hopefully in the future we'll be able to go to California to see the kids there.
From Josh, Maureen's former boss:
Maureen will certainly be missed at Grandville. She exemplified patience, kindness and empathy with our patrons, which was always appreciated. I suspect fellow staff members will miss her even more for the fact that her love of a good party was infectious, and helped inspire many of our regular potlucks or in branch excitement, not to mention the fantastic baked goods she would provide us all with regularity. We are all hoping the first few weeks of retirement have been wonderful and will continue to be so into the future.
Best wishes, Maureen!
