Enjoy some poetry at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 23 at the Kentwood (Richard L. Root) Branch of Kent District Library. Z.G. Tomaszewski will be reading from his new book All Things Dusk, winner of the Hong Kong University International Poetry Prize of 2014. He will be joined by Detroit poet John Rybicki. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Kentwood Library.
“I am really excited for the Spring Poetry series at KDL,” said Greg Lewis, Teen Paraprofessional at the Kentwood Branch. “We are bringing in some of our area’s finest young voices, and Z.G., with his eloquent literary insights and observations, will kick the series off in a fine fashion.”
After living in Vermont and Ireland, and hitch-hiking out west which culminated in a job at Glacier National Park, Tomaszewski is back in Grand Rapids. He works maintenance at the Masonic Temple and is a founding member and events coordinator of Great Lakes Commonwealth of Letters and co-director of Lamp Light Music Festival. Several of his poems have been published in numerous literary and poetry journals in both the United States and Ireland.
Rybicki is the author of three poetry collections, We Bed Down into Water, Traveling at High Speeds and When All the World Is Old. He taught poetry writing through InsideOut Literary Arts Project and Wings of Hope Hospice. His poems have been published in The Best American Poetry 2008, Alaska Quarterly Review, Field, Paris Review and Poetry.
Other poetry events taking place at the Kentwood Branch this spring include Spring Into Poetry with the Diatribe on April 21 and Find Your Voice Teen Poetry Slam on May 17.
