Looking for Alaska
Based on John Green’s first novel, "Looking for Alaska" follows the story of Miles, a 16-year-old boy who loves famous last words. Miles' first year at Culver Creek Preparatory School in Alabama includes good friends and great pranks but is defined by the search for answers about life and death after a fatal car crash.
After years in movie rights limbo, Looking for Alaska has been picked up by Hulu for an eight-episode miniseries.
Looking for Alaska premieres Oct. 18.
Based on the book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, "Good Omens" follows an unlikely pair, the Demon Crowley and Angel Aziraphale, who have grown complacent and comfortable over the last 6,000 years. So when the anti-Christ is born and the end of the world is nigh, they team up to try to stop it.
With a script written by Gaiman as a last request of Pratchett, new and old fans are sure to enjoy the six-episode miniseries available now on Amazon Video.
His Dark Materials
Based on the series by Philip Pullman, the first season will follow the first book in the series, The Golden Compass. The series follows a young girl named Lyra, who lives in a world parallel to our own. In Lyra’s world, every human has an animal companion known as a dæmon, a manifestation of their human’s soul. While living with the tutors at Jordan College, Oxford, Lyra discovers a dangerous secret. When her friend disappears, Lyra also uncovers a slew of kidnappings and their link to a mysterious substance call Dust. This joint venture between HBO and the BBC stars Dafne Keen, Ruth Wilson, Lin-Manuel Miranda and James McAvoy.
"His Dark Materials" premieres in Fall 2019.
The Umbrella Academy
Based on a series of graphic novels created and written by Gerard Way that tell the story of how one day in 1989, 43 infants are born to random women who were not pregnant the day before. Seven of these children are adopted by billionaire industrialist Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who creates the Umbrella Academy to prepare his children to save the world. Eventually the group disbands, but when Hargreeves passes away, they must reunite to solve the mystery surrounding their father’s death.
The Umbrella Academy is available now on Netflix.
Based on the classic novel by Joseph Heller, "Catch-22" follows WWII bombardier Yossarian as he tries to escape his assignments. However, he gets caught in a catch-22, a bureaucratic rule that states a man is considered insane if he willingly continues to fly dangerous missions, but a request to be removed from duty is evidence of sanity and makes him ineligible to be relieved of his duty.
"Catch-22" is available now on Hulu.
Based on the comic series, "Watchmen" takes place in an alternate United States where masked vigilantes were outlawed because of their violent methods. After a white supremacist group calling themselves The Seventh Calvary starts attacking the homes of police officers, the police start wearing masks.
"Watchmen" premieres in October 2019.
