We are excited to learn that all of the amazing reads below have recently had their movies rights purchased! This does not guarantee they will all become movies, but when and if they do, will certainly be a “must see” since the books are “must reads.”
Scythe by Neil Schusterman
Set in a future world where humans do not die except when “gleaned” by mysterious scythes, this title follows the story of two apprentice scythes forced to compete for a position neither wants. Perfect for Hunger Games fans!
Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds
Told in verse, this title finds fifteen year-old Will setting out to avenge his brother Shawn's fatal shooting. At each floor on the way down, a ghost boards and sets to reveal truths Shawn needs to know. John Legend is set to produce and it will be interesting to see how they handle a film that spans only sixty seconds of time passing.
The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw
Two centuries ago, three sisters were drowned as witches in Sparrow, Oregon. Now, they haunt the town once a year and lure young teen boys to their death. Penny, a modern day girl, can see the witches, but has to choose between speaking out and saving the boy she loves, or staying quiet to save herself. This is actually not set to be a film but a Netflix series.
The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid
Nemesis is a humanoid teenager bred and trained to be a bodyguard for Sidonia, a galactic senator’s daughter. When Sidonia is summoned to be a hostage at the emperor’s court, Nemesis goes in her place. As she pretends to be Sidonia, she starts to question whether she is more than just a deadly force.
Dry by Neal and Jarrod Shusterman
Alyssa, her ten-year-old brother, and the awkward boy next door, must band together to survive when a California drought becomes so severe the water supply is turned off, and her quiet suburban neighborhood is akin to a war zone. Lots of harrowing action throughout.
