For those of you who just can’t wait until the final season of Game of Thrones comes to HBO in April, check out George R.R. Martin’s latest book in the Song of Ice and Fire universe, Fire and Blood. This companion novel takes place 300 years before Game of Thrones and focuses on the Targaryen family’s long and bloody history.
Our tale starts with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror and concludes with Aegon III. From the doomed land of Valyria, the Targaryens are the only dragonlord family to survive. Aegon turns his eyes to Westeros and settles in Dragonstone. While this novel does include a lot of information and over 80 illustrations Game of Throne fans will enjoy, it does not have his normal storytelling style, as Martin writes from the perspective of Archmaester Gyldayn. However, some burning questions do get answered: Why is Valyria so deadly after the doom? Where did Daenery’s three dragon eggs come from?
You’ll have to read it to find out! No Spoilers!
