Are you excited for Leigh Bardugo’s newest novel, The Ninth House? This novel is an intense read in which the main protagonist Alex has survived a horrible multiple homicide and is now getting a second chance in life with a full ride scholarship to Harvard from a mysterious benefactor. There is a hitch though; she needs to monitor a secret society, an occult, and discovers there are very sinister things going on. Bardugo has a created a world full of deep, dark mystery.
While you are waiting for The Ninth House, try Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey. This novel will make you feel like you are there due to the immersive and atmospheric nature of the book. Ivy, a private investigator, is tasked with solving the murder of a faculty member at a school for magic. However, the answer seems to be just out of her grasp – and so does the magic. Another great read about secret societies in college is The Sixes by Kate White. Phoebe, a new teacher at a quiet Pennsylvanian college, begins to try to uncover a mysterious murder that recently went unsolved. Her investigation uncovers very dark things happening in a cult called The Sixes on campus.
If you are more into the paranormal and vampires, Greywalker by Kat Richardson with give you the sinister feel with a more paranormal edge. Harper has had a close call that has now given her the ability to move between our world and a world of monsters, vampires and werewolves. Not your thing? We have a fantastic mystery thriller by Lisa Jackson called Without Mercy. Jules gets a job at an academy where girls are mysteriously disappearing and discovers that there is evil lurking on campus. This book will be hard to put down, which is perfect for our cold snowy November weather.
