Guys Read is a nationwide literacy program created by author Jon Scieszka. Its mission is simple: to help boys become self-motivated, lifelong readers by helping them find the material they want to read, in the formats they want. The Kent District Library is joining forces with Guys Read to get guys of all ages reading. If you're a guy, or if you want to connect guys with great books, this is the place for you!
Studies have shown that boys are falling behind girls when it comes to reading. The National Assessment of Educational Progress ("The Nation's Report Card") shows boys of all ages lagging behind their female counterparts at reading. In fact, the U.S. Department of Education reading tests for the last 30 years show boys scoring worse than girls in every age group, every year.
