Kent District Library offers free bicycle rentals with its KDL Cruisers.
For the 2018 season, the Comstock Park, East Grand Rapids, Grandville, Kelloggsville, Kentwood, Krause Memorial in Rockford, Walker and Wyoming branches plus our Service and Meeting Center will have Breezer Uptown EX 8-speed bicycles available for checkout. Each KDL Cruiser comes with a basket, a bike lock and key. All bikes will have a diagonal, step-through crossbar.
The KDL Cruisers are available from roughly May 1 to Oct. 31.
KDL Cruisers can be checked out to anyone age 18 or older with a KDL, Lakeland Library Cooperative or Grand Rapids Public Library card in good standing and a photo ID. You'll be asked to sign a Bicycle Borrowing Agreement acknowledging financial responsibility for lost, stolen or damaged equipment. Adults will be allowed to sign waivers for children as long as the adult accompanies the children on the ride. Bikes are due back by closing of the branch's next business day. Overdue fees are $20/day.
Although Michigan law doesn't require bicyclists to wear a helmet, the library strongly recommends customers bring their own.
To find out how many bikes are available at each branch, check our catalog for availability.
